As the first Spice Merchant restaurant, Cookham was the beginning of the success
of this award-winning group. Ever since Bashir Islam opened it in 1982, it's had
a superb reputation for fine Indian cuisine.
Cookham is located in an ancient 15th century coach house, which offers an historic
setting that has been tastefully modernised to ensure a fantastic dining experience.
With its wonderful low ceilings and three separate rooms, which are the original
design of the building, Cookham has a unique intimate and cosy atmosphere.
The menu at Cookham is very traditional, with pot cooking and flame grilling as
the main cooking methods. For those who are looking for something new to try, Cookham’s
chefs also always have an exciting selection of specials. There’s also an extensive
fish and vegetarian selection, such as monkfish cooked in fresh coriander and tamarind
sauce, or cottage cheese roasted in the clay oven and served in a makhani sauce.
As with all Spice Merchant restaurants, when you dine at Cookham, you’ll notice
what a difference it makes to eat fresh meat and fish, fresh vegetables handpicked
from the market and cuisine cooked entirely from scratch to our Oberoi-trained chef’s
secret recipes.
